Aching and Painful Joints

Don't suffer in silence! Read on for valuable advice.

Top tips to avoid joint aches and pains

Pain in the joints of your body can be managed successfully through self care.

Exercise and Rest

Exercises ease or decreases joint pain and prevents worsening of pain. Each joint should be put through its full range of motion. Bending, stretching, extending the joint and surrounding muscles are some of the ways in which the joints are kept active. Regular and gentle movements keep muscles toned and help you build strength and flexibility. alt src=http://www.woodsideclinic.co.uk/images/stories/woodside/retrieved-images/instructor-1.jpg

Your level of activity should be adjusted based on the level of pain in the joints. Exercises should not be overdone and ample rest in between exercises is necessary for the joints. Without relaxation, the intensity of pain increases.

Proper body weight and healthy food habits

Care should be taken to maintain proper weight in accordance to your height. Balanced weight does not put unnecessary pressure on weight bearing joints during movements. For an increase of one pound in body weight, there is an increase of 5 to 6 pounds of stress on the weight bearing joints. The correct body weight can be achieved by taking care to maintain healthy food habits.

Proper body mechanics and care

Good posture helps to protect the joints in your neck, back, hips and knees. When lifting or carrying anything heavy, use the largest and strongest joints and muscles. You should avoid excessive pressure or stress on the small joints of the hand. Joints should be protected with the help of assisting devices and supports. Do not remain in the same position for a long time. Positions should be changed as often as possible.
