What is Hypnotherapy?
What may Hypnotherapy help with?
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnosis is a natural, safe state of mind and although it is sometimes mistaken for the sleep state, it is in fact, an altered state of consciousness' to utilise enhanced suggestibility to help treat psychological and medical conditions and effect behavoural changes. The individual is usually aware of the experience.
The patient may experience varying levels of hypnosis. These varying degrees range from very light hypnosis (feeling pleasantly relaxed) to much deeper depth generally thought to be similar to sleep walking state. The success of hypnosis is not necessarily determined by the depth of hypnosis experienced by the individual; however, in order to achieve lasting effects a moderately deep state of hypnosis is preferred. About 75% of patients will go easily into a deep hypnotic state within their first visit to a Hypnotherapist.
There are many ways of inducing the hypnotic state and it is entirely up to the therapist which method is going to be used. An indication can be as simple as asking someone to close their eyes and visualise certain scenes; however, the use of soft but confident voice by therapist is very important in inducing a trans-like condition. During this time the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness, concentrating entirely on the Hypnotherapist's voice.

Hypnotherapy treatments may help with any problem you are finding hard to handle on your own, overwhelming or sustained emotional suffering or thoughts and actions you would like to banish or acquire as well as some physical problems.
Treatment may help to:
Hypnosis is thought to work by altering our state of consciousness in such a way that the analytical left-hand side of the brain is turned off, while the non-analytical right-hand side is made more receptive. Since the subconscious mind is a deeper seated, more instinctive force than the conscious part of the mind, this is the part which has to change and be re-programmed so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs are abolished or altered. This helps irrational fears, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome.
As the body is released from conscious control during the relaxed trans-like state, breathing becomes slower and deeper, the pulse rate drops and the sensation of pain can become less acute. As mentioned above, patients remain fully aware of their surroundings and situation, and are not vulnerable to every given command of the therapist. The important thing is that the patient wants to change his or her behavioural habits and is highly motivated to do so.
