Pilates Reformer at Woodside Clinic

Pilates Reformer is a bed-like frame with a flat platform on it which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. This platform is called a carriage and it is attached to one end of the reformer by a set of springs. The springs provide choices of differing levels of resistance as the carriage is pushed or pulled along the frame.
The reformer also has long straps with handles on them that are attached to the top end of the frame. They can be pulled with legs or arms to move the carriage as well.
Body weight and resistance of the springs are what make the carriage more or less difficult to move. The Pilates Reformers parts are adjustable for differing body sizes and for differing levels of skill, providing individual flexibility.
It may look like a torture table but this fantastic piece of equipment will change and reform your life :) The Pilates Reformer aids in the development of strength flexibility, endurance and improve your posture without adding bulk or stressing your joints. It is a low impact form of exercise for patients with specific injuries (e.g. disc prolapsed, rehabilitation after back surgery, back pain from sporting injuries or pregnancy) to use as part of a rehabilitation programme. It can also be used to complement any cardiovascular programme or athletic training to improve the core.
Our Pilates instructors will be happy to answer any further questions you might have and discuss how the Pilates Reformer could benefit you. If you would like to book a session please call us on 01525 372 447.
A wide variety of exercises are done on the reformer to promote length, strength, flexibility, and balance.
One of the best things about the reformer is its versatility. Exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways, and all kinds of variations. Why not give the reformer a try?
